Statement on COVID-19 (Coronavirus)

(Kanata, March 12, 2020) – Kanata Theatre puts the health and safety of our patrons as a top priority.

In response to the increased cases of COVID-19 (coronavirus), including recently here in Ottawa, Kanata Theatre is taking the following steps:

  • We are requesting that our cleaning service takes extra care to sanitize all public spaces, including doorknobs, handrails and other surfaces.
  • Making hand sanitizers available at the Ron Maslin Playhouse — though the best thing to do is to wash your hands with soap and water for 20 seconds as recommended by public health authorities. (Sing Happy Birthday or recite the alphabet to ensure you wash for the proper duration).
  • Displaying hand-washing, hand-sanitizing, and cough etiquette sheets throughout the playhouse.

The opening of our next show, “Quartet”, remains scheduled for 8pm on Tuesday, March 24th.  There are no plans presently to cancel performances.  This will continue to be guided by advice from public health experts and the municipality.

However, should you have plans to attend one of our shows and find yourself feeling unwell, Kanata Theatre asks that you stay home from the performance.

Patrons who do feel well and attend a performance are encouraged to cover their nose and mouth with a tissue when coughing or sneezing or cough into their elbow if no tissue is available.  Instead of handshakes, we encourage you to do elbow bumps or foot taps.

Kanata Theatre will continue to follow advice from Ottawa Public Health and the Public Health Agency of Canada to ensure our decisions and actions are based on the best available evidence and facts.
